About the Piece:

Written by Nicholas Rocha, this piece is a 40-minute odyssey set in eight movements entitled Abyssopelagic. It was written for choir, piano, clarinet, tenor saxophone, and cello and features poetry written by the composer. It was conceived as a secular De Profundis (Psalm 130) mixed with a song cycle like Schumann's Dichterliebe or Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte

The music explores themes of longing, loss, and hope and traces an emotional journey through grief, remembrance, and acceptance, drawing on both sacred and secular musical traditions.
